William Melvin Turner, III

William M. Turner III, 63, passed away at his home in Port St. Lucie, Florida on August 24, 2017, with his brother and caregiver, Michael at his side.

He was born in Cambridge, MD on January 29, 1954, the son of Wm. Melvin Turner, Jr. and Joyce Kirwan Turner.

He graduated from Cambridge High School in 1972, and from St. Leo’s College, Norfolk, VA. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on November 17, 1975, achieving the rank of OS2. After his discharge on November 16, 1979, he lived in Norfolk and worked for the City of Norfolk while attending college. He later moved to Marathon, FL and worked for the State of Florida. He returned to Maryland and lived in Stevensville and worked for the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture in Washington, DC, Liaison for the Farm Service Agency, Geographical Information System.

Bill enjoyed boating and was an avid fisherman and he and his brother Mike, won several tournaments. He was a USCG licensed Captain.

He was a member of the Nause-Waiwash Band of Indians, served on the Council and enjoyed doing research of Native American Tribes.

In addition to his parents, Bill is survived by two daughters Christian and Rebecca Turner, brothers Joe K. Turner (Joyce) of Cambridge, and Michael D. Turner of Port St. Lucie, Florida, nephews Joshua R. Turner of Cambridge and Coty I. Turner of Coral Springs, Florida and two nieces Macey Connolly and Ashley McAboy.

He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge, where a memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 12 pm with Rev. Michael Hurley officiating. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. After the service family and friends are invited to a reception in Garrison Hall.

Inurnment will be private at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery where Bill will rest with his infant son William M. Turner IV, who died at birth on September 8, 1987.
