William F. Waldis, 92, of Cambridge passed away on January 9, 2017 at his home.  He was born on December 3, 1924 on the Homeland Farms in Federalsburg to the late Joseph Waldis and Minnie Scott Waldis.

Mr. Waldis graduated from Federalsburg High School in 1944.  After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army.  He served during World War II.  On April 20, 1948, Mr. Waldis married the former Doris Robbins, who passed away on June 26, 2008.  In 1952, he opened Bill’s Barber Shop on Maryland Avenue, which he ran for over 50 years.  Mr. Waldis was an avid hunter.  He was a member of the Cambridge Skeet Club and the Cambridge VFW Post 7460.

Mr. Waldis is survived by a daughter L. Marlene Waldis of Cambridge, a nephew Jack Waldis and wife Delores of Federalsburg, 3 sisters Elizabeth Orme of Hayward, California, Margaret Wheatley of Federalsburg, and Louise Massey of Seaford, Delaware, former son-in-law Glenn Elzey of Solon, IA and several nieces and nephews.  Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Doris, a daughter Beth Elzey, a brother Russell Waldis, and five sisters Virginia Nichols, Reba Salmons, Ruth Dodd, Gertrude Lord, and Kathleen DeGraw.

A graveside service will be held at Bucktown Cemetery on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 2 PM with Rev. Dale Krotee officiating.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Chestnut Grove Association, C/O Peggy Culhane, 5170 Longswamp Rd., Federalsburg, MD 21632, or to Immanuel Church of Christ 5401 Whitehall Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613.   Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, MD.
