William Leroy Warfield, Sr., 86, of Cambridge passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at Dorchester General Hospital. He was born in Cambridge on June 11, 1924 and was a son of the late Norman and Leona Hubbard Warfield.
He attended schools in Dorchester County. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II. After the service, he drove a charter bus and a school bus. Later, he hauled newspapers from Baltimore to Cambridge. On September 19, 1950 he was married the former Elizabeth Hubbard. She passed away on July 9, 2006. Mr. Warfield was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a member of the American Legion Post 91and Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW.
He is survived by a son Robert Lee Warfield and companion Betty Darling of Cambridge, grandchildren William S. Warfield of Cambridge and Kathy L. Warfield of Delaware, three brothers Paul Warfield, Alvin Warfield and George Raymond Warfield, two sisters Margaret Warfield and Rachel Cannon A and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Mr. Warfield is preceded in death by a son William L. Warfield Jr., a brother William Delmas Warfield and two sisters Blanche Sanger and Loretta Elzey.
Pallbearers will be Calvert Warfield, Alvin Warfield, Paul Warfield, Raymond Warfield, Eugene Martinetti and Edwin Robbins.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at 1 p.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge with Rev. Pam Bockart officiating. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veteran's Cemetery near Hurlock. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
