With his family by his side, Wm. Douglas Todd, Sr., 75, of Cambridge, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 07, 2018. He was born on November 11, 1942 to the late Monroe and Stella Todd of Crocheron.
In 1960, Doug graduated from South Dorchester High School. He considered his classmates to be close friends and looked forward to their many reunions. On August 15, 1964 he married the former Marilyn M. Mills “Tippy”. Together they built a life in Cambridge where they raised their sons, Doug and Denny. He served in the Maryland National Guard for 6 years.
Doug loved life. He thrived on entertaining with his stories about growing up in Crocheron. It didn’t matter how many times you heard the story, it always made you laugh. He had a passion for painting water scenes, particularly those depicting work boats. Doug held various jobs, including working on the water in the South Dorchester community. He retired from Preston Trucking after 27 years and then delivered medications for Craig’s Drug Store for 10 years. In the past year, Doug enjoyed spending time with the people at Cardiac Rehab. Doug loved the Lord. He was a member of Jubilee Christian Fellowship, although he would not consider himself religious.
Doug is survived by his wife of 54 years, his sons, Wm. Douglas Todd, Jr. (Mary), W. Denton Todd (Kerry Ann) and three grandchildren, MacKenzie Carroll Todd, Alivea Joy Todd and Toby Denton Todd. He is also survived by one brother, Earl Todd (Beverly), nieces Karen Todd Robinson (Ted), Kathy Todd McConnell (Matt), Amy Vasey (Steve), and nephews Dr. Ted Mills (Kendra), Regi Pifer-Mills (Beth), Richard Mills (Dawn). He had a special niece and nephew who were like grandchildren to him, Katie Paul (Aaron) and Zachary Rue. He also had many other close relatives and several special friends. Besides his parents, he is preceded in death by infant daughter, Emily Janelle Todd.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at 11am at the Choptank River Events Center (former Country Club) on Horns Point Road with his brother-in-law, Dr. Reginald Mills officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Jubilee Christian Fellowship, P.O. Box 202, Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge, MD.
