William E. "Buddy" Cox, Sr.

William E. “Buddy” Cox, Sr., 76, of East New Market passed away on Friday, March 13, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born in Cambridge on April 11, 1938 and was the son of the late Earl E. and Helen Taylor Cox, Sr.

Buddy joined the United States Army in 1956 and was an aircraft mechanic, retiring in 1976 after 20 years of service. He married the former Charlotte Jones on April 11, 1964. For the last twenty years he was a waterman. Buddy enjoyed crabbing, being on the water and hanging out with his buddies at the VFW. He was a member of the VFW Post 7460, where at one time he was the Post Commander and played on their softball league in his younger years.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years Charlotte Cox of East New Market, daughter Valerie Smith and husband Ricky of Secretary, three sons Paul Cox and wife Gwen of Centreville, VA, Thomas Cox and wife Tammie of Lubbock, TX and William Edward Cox, Jr. and wife Becki of Queen Creek, AZ, ten grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he is preceded in death by a brother Earl E. Cox, Jr., a sister Beverly "Bubbles" Wanex.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge. Burial will follow at the Maryland Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Palliative Care Unit at UMSMC at Dorchester, 300 Byrne St. Cambridge, MD 21613.
