Willis L. McGlaughlin, Sr., 93, of Cambridge passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at the Macky and Pam Stansell House of Coastal Hospice in Ocean Pines. He was born in Wingate on September 26, 1926 and was a son of the late Ebben E. and Iva Lewis McGlaughlin.
He attended schools in Wingate. Mr. McGlaughlin served in the U.S. Marine Corps during WWII. On February 14, 1947, he married the former Bessie Stewart, who passed away on July 31, 2012. Mr. McGlaughlin was a self-employed building contractor. He enjoyed fishing, crabbing and hunting. Mr. McGlaughlin was a member of the Choptank Memorial Post 7460 VFW, the Ruritan Club and the REACT Club.
He is survived by three children Rhonda Heinecke and husband Daniel of Berlin, Debbie Fitzhugh and husband Ricky of Cambridge and Stewart McGlaughlin and wife Paige of High Point, NC, four grandchildren Jessica Horseman (Benny), Allie Fitzhugh, Peyton McGlaughlin and Emory McGlaughlin, and several nieces and nephews. Beside his parents, Mr. McGlaughlin is preceded in death by a son W. Lewis McGlaughlin, Jr., a brother William J. “Bill Tuck” McGlaughlin, two sisters Norma Phillips and Anna Belle Birch.
A graveside service will be held on Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 10 am at Dorchester Memorial Park. Face mask and social distancing is required. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Macky and Pam Stansell House of Coastal Hospice, 1500 Ocean Parkway, Ocean Pines, MD 21811. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
