William D. “Dave” Bromwell, Sr., 77, of Cambridge passed away Sunday, February 8, 2015 at UMSMC at Dorchester. He was born May 13, 1937 and was a son of the late Mary Lillian Bromwell.

Dave grew up in East Cambridge playing ball with the East Cambridge boys. He was educated by the Dorchester County Public Schools and was a graduate of Cambridge High School in 1956 as his class president. This was an accomplishment he was proud of as his classmates meant a great deal to him.  Dave was also proud to be a member of the 1955 Maryland State basketball championship team since it was Dorchester County Maryland’s first team to earn a state title. He continued his education at Salisbury Teachers College in 1957 for one semester after high school, before joining the U.S. Air Force with a tour overseas in Morocco.

After serving in the Air Force, Dave was employed with Cambridge Wire Cloth and later for the U.S. Postal Service, with 41 years of service.  The Cambridge Post Office employees and the people of Cambridge provided his favorite daily conversations.  During the summers in and after high school, he worked for Sullivan’s Market and Phillips Packing Company.  Throughout the years, he would also work part time at Foxwell’s Grocery Store and Mowbray’s Market.

Dave was an active and exempt member of Cambridge Rescue Fire Company totaling 46 years, the Dorchester Ruritan Club, where he served as the chairman of the scholarship committee and a life time member of Cambridge Lodge 1272 B.P.O.E Elks where he served as Esquire.  Dave also was a member of Cambridge Little League, serving as a board member and coach.  He coached the youth sports of baseball, girls softball, and football for Dorchester County. He followed all area sports umpiring softball and baseball as well, but his most recent enjoyment was following his grandson’s sports teams.

On May 18, 1963, Dave married the former Faye Jones Mowbray. He is survived by son, William David Bromwell, Jr. (Angela Marie Bromwell), grandchildren Mary Nicole (Cola) Bromwell Daum (Travis), Elizabeth Alexis (Alex) Bromwell Foxwell (Nicholas), Crystal Mercedes Bromwell, Brendan David Bromwell, Jarrett Phillip Bromwell, Brice Austin Bromwell, and a great grandson, Mason James Daum.  He was preceded in death by daughter, Elizabeth Naomi Bromwell, (Beth) who passed away on June 17, 1990.

Pallbearers will be Jay Vickers, James R. Jones IV, Scott Patterson Jones, Kirk Payne, Brendan D. Bromwell, Jarrett P. Bromwell and Brice A. Bromwell.  Honorary pallbearers will be James R. Jones, III, James Clark Garing, Mace N. Jones, JT North, Lester Whaples, Tom Powley, Fonda Jackson, Charles Payne and Hershel Johnson.
