Woodrow W. Jones, 89 of Vienna, passed away at his home on Friday August 29, 2008. He was born in Vienna on December 5, 1918 and was a son of the late Will and Lilly Todd Jones.
Mr. Jones attended schools in Vienna and graduated from Vienna High School. In February of 1942 he enlisted in the U.S. Army.
While serving in the Army he served in New Guinea, the Biak Islands and Australia. Mr. Jones was Honorably Discharged on May 21, 1945.
On December 9, 1948, he was married to the former Elizabeth Hughes. She passed away on February 25, 2008.
Some years ago Mr. Jones worked for Lloyd Hurst at his service station in Vienna. He later worked for Delmarva Power Light until he retired in 1983. Mr. Jones was a member of Choptank Memorial Post # 7460 Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping and crabbing.
Mr. Jones had been in failing health for the past five years when he passed away at his home on Friday.
Survivors include
three daughters Mabel Harding, Charlotta Snelling and Elizabeth "Bebe" Jones all of Cambridge, three grandchildren Karen Harding, Ronald M. Harding, Sr. and Erin Elizabeth Willey and five great grandchildren. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by two brothers William Jones and Earl Jones and three sisters Josephine Jones and Estelle Manning and
Florence Peed.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 PM at the Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Lloyd Massey officiating. Interment will follow at St. Paul's P.E. Cemetery in Vienna. The family will receive friends during the hour preceding the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Costal Hospice Foundation, P.O. Box 1733, Salisbury, Md 21802. Pallbearers will be Craig Graleski, Ricky Reid, Craig Reid, Billy Wheatley, Tommy Hughesand Greg Cusick.
