David Alan Gibson, 62, passed away on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at University of Maryland Medical Center. He was born on August 2, 1951 in Oxford to the late Betty Ann Gibson.

Mr. Gibson was raised in Oxford by his mother and grandparents, Herbert and Wilsie Gibson. He attended Oxford Elementary School. He played on the Oxford Little League, which were the 1963 county champions. David was very active in Boy Scouts, where he obtained the second highest ranking of "Life Scout", along with a God and Country award. He graduated from Easton High School in 1969 and then attended Chesapeake College. On December 19, 1970 he married the former Marta "Marty" A. Cole.

For several years David worked as a maintenance mechanic for local manufacturing companies. In December of 1974, he was a police officer for the city of Cambridge. He was an assistant squad leader, traffic officer and later was one of the few certified breathalyzer operators. In 1980, he was selected by the FOP as the Police Officer of the Year, for conduct above and beyond the call of duty. In 1981, David and his wife Marty purchased the local 7-11 franchise, which they operated for 2 years. He entered the automotive business and held positions such as salesman, business manager and sales manager at local dealerships for the next twelve years. In 1993, David expanded his horizon to include outside territory sales, covering the State of Delaware for Bay County Supply in Easton. He remained with the company until a work related back injury forced him to leave. In August of 1998, David went back to school and became licensed in the security and financial fields and was employed by AIG Valic. He was the financial advisor covering the higher education arena including Chesapeake College, University of Salisbury and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He also covered the K-12 schools in Talbot, Dorchester, Wicomico, Worcester and Somerset counties. He also assisted employees in Dorchester County and the City of Cambridge in the local government sector. At the end of 2007, David took early retirement from AIG Valic due to health problems.

David is survived by his wife of 43 years Marty Gibson, a sister-in-law Connie Lewis, two nieces Nicky and Chrissy and his beloved Yorkie, Andy. Besides his mother and his grandparents, David was preceded in death by a cousin William R. Kouzoulas, aunt Martha Kouzoulas, uncle Bill Kouzoulas and his in-laws Francis and Annabel Cole.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to Baywater Animal Rescue, 4930 Bucktown Rd., Cambridge, MD 21613. Arrangements are in the care of Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.
